The full package is what made the structure click for me. Volume 1 develops the science you need to explain properly, Volume 2 moves into anaesthetic decision-making, and Volume 3 brings in ICU, emergencies and image interpretation. It feels much more coherent than preparing each viva area from unrelated resources.

What I like most is that the material is written for speaking, not just reading. You constantly have to explain why, anticipate the examiner's next question and say what would make you change your plan. I would choose the complete three-volume set because that approach carries consistently through all four SOEs.

Volume 2 has been particularly useful for me. The perioperative cases force you to state a safe plan early and then defend it when the situation changes, which is exactly where viva answers can become disorganized. Having Volumes 1 and 3 alongside it makes the preparation much more balanced.

The color coding is genuinely useful during repeated revision. I can immediately separate mechanisms, danger points, preferred management and exam traps without rereading every paragraph. The complete package also means I can use the same style of preparation from basic sciences through to critical care.

I was looking for something more focused than another large anaesthesia textbook. These volumes are structured around what you actually need to explain and defend during the oral examination. The guided questions and follow-up style make the full package especially useful when practising aloud.

Volume 1 handles basic sciences very well because it does not stop at definitions. You are expected to explain the mechanism, predict what changes, and then connect it to anaesthesia or monitoring. I ended up preferring the full package because the later volumes continue exactly the same reasoning style clinically.

The mock-viva approach is one of the strongest parts of the set. I like answering before looking at the response map and then repeating the topic after seeing what I omitted. All three volumes together feel like a proper oral-exam training programme rather than simply a collection of notes.

I particularly appreciate the emphasis on prioritisation. The books keep asking what matters now, what can harm the patient, what the next action is and what would make you escalate. That makes the material feel very relevant to Part II and is why I personally prefer the complete package.

Volume 3 is excellent for critical-care revision because it forces you to connect physiology with action instead of reciting an ICU checklist. The image interpretation section is also very practical. Combined with the other two volumes, it gives a much more complete feeling of preparation for the examination day.

The difference for me is the viva orientation. Even familiar topics feel different when you have to explain them clearly, defend the decision and respond to another variable. The complete library gives you practice doing that across science, anaesthesia, emergencies and intensive care.

I like that the important warnings and distinctions are visually obvious without the pages becoming overloaded with highlighting. It makes rapid revision much easier. I would still choose all three volumes because each one addresses a genuinely different part of the Part II examination.

The books have helped me become much more structured when answering aloud. Instead of listing everything I know, I now start with the problem, immediate priority and reasoning, then explain what would change the plan. The full package is valuable because you practise this same discipline across every SOE area.

The clinical scenarios feel much more useful than passive revision because the examiner can effectively change direction through the follow-up questions. Volume 2 is probably my favourite, but I would still take the complete set because the morning science and SOE 4 preparation are too important to leave disconnected.

The image interpretation in Volume 3 was a strong addition for me. It teaches a systematic description before jumping to the diagnosis and then immediately links the finding to urgency and management. Together with Volumes 1 and 2, the package feels very thoughtfully designed for Part II.

What convinced me about the three-volume package is that there is very little sense of repetition between the books. Volume 1 builds the scientific explanation, Volume 2 trains perioperative and critical-incident decisions, and Volume 3 finishes with ICU, emergencies and interpretation. It is a very logical way to organise EDAIC Part II preparation.
